Our annual LakeFest Fly-in and Safety Seminar will take place at Madden’s on Gull Lake, Brainerd, Minnesota, July 18-21, 2018. LakeFest is the premier Lake event in the world. There is no place else on earth where you can learn so much about Lakes and how to maintain, operate and enjoy them. Daily seminars featuring Lake specialists and other aircraft experts are conducted each morning of the event. In the afternoons, you can fly the area’s myriad freshwater lakes, get expert instruction from the Lake instructors in attendance, and meet and mingle with the many Lake owners and pilots in attendance. Madden’s is a resort offering many amenities and activities that have not been available at previous LakeFest locations, and the room rates published include a meal plan.
Adjacent to Madden’s is East Gull Lake Airport (9Y2) with a well-maintained grass strip. If you plan to bring your Lake Amphibian and park here, bring your own tie-downs! While it is great to arrive by Lake or Skimmer, and dozens will be present, many people drive to the event or arrive via airlines. Commercial flights are available to Brainerd (KBRD) twice daily, and Minneapolis/Saint Paul is also a few hours away by car.
Wednesday, July 18th will be a day of arrivals. Watch the Lakes arrive from near and far on the grass strip or the water, greet your old friends and make new ones. The first scheduled event will be an opening cocktail reception, followed by an opening banquet.
Thursday, Friday and Saturday mornings we have programmed three days of intensive Lake Learning Sessions. Afternoons are open for flying. There will be various evening “fireside chats” and special activities. A barbecue is scheduled for Friday evening. Casual attire is appropriate for all activities.
Sunday is departure for home or other exotic places.
It is extremely important to register with the Lake Amphibian Club early for LakeFest! Equally important is to reserve a room at the Madden’s, to ensure you are able to obtain a room and receive the club rate. (Call 1-800-642-5363 or 1-218-829-2811, and mention the Lake Amphibian Club for the special room rate.) See the PDF announcement for registration details, and be sure to register both with the club and with the resort!
Please note: Madden’s requires a $200 deposit for reservations. The cancellation policy is more complex than in previous years, and the deposit will not be refunded if reservations are cancelled within 60 days of the event, so please review the PDF carefully, particularly if you are flying to the event. Madden’s indicated that they will review the deposit policy for cancellations on a case-by-case basis if the cancellation is due to unforeseen weather conditions or mechanical problems.
