For the next LakeFest gathering, we are continuing our process of seeking new locations that can allow more of our geographically-dispersed members to attend, and, thanks to a suggestion from our favorite comedian (David Walter), have selected Gulf Shores, AL. Our event will start on the Sunday evening, with the traditional banquet, and will follow our traditional format of morning seminar sessions, with afternoons available for local flyouts or recurrent training with the Lake-CFI’s attending. Hopefully, there will also be some evening entertainment! There will also be a second dinner on Tuesday evening. David will be assisting in running the event!
For the event, we will be using the Gulf Shores/Jack Edwards airport (KJKA). Plane parking will be arranged for the southwest corner of the ramp, and details about procedures and any possible fees will be distributed prior to the event. We will be based at the Springhill Suites in nearby Orange Beach, and there will be a shuttle service between the two locations.
We have arranged a block of rooms for a nightly price of $199 + tax, which includes breakfast. The room category is “Queen Pool View”. Reservations may be made by either going to the Marriott reservation system, using this link, or by calling their main reservation line at (888) 236-2427, and asking for reservations, then the special rate for “The Lake Amphibian Club” at the Springhill Suites, Orange Beach. Our special rate is available from 4/17-4/24/26. If you are a Bonvoy member, you will be able to earn points for the stay.
Springhill Suites is located in the Wharf area of Orange Beach, which offers a wide variety of dining and entertainment options, all within easy walking distance of the hotel. It is also a short Uber ride from the beautiful white sand beaches.
For those of you who might be concerned about the proximity of available fresh water for water-flying, David has assured us that all of the Mobile river delta area north of I-10 is fresh (ie, non-brackish), and is chock full of great landing sites. He will be doing a briefing on that on Sunday evening, and may provide additional information here on the website in advance. Flight time from KJKA to the delta is about 15 minutes. The registration fee for the event includes the banquet and the second dinner, as well as refreshments all three days. Prices are as follows: couple – $300; single – $200; teenagers, aged 13-19 – $150; children, aged 3-12 – $75; children under age 3 – free. Please register for the event as soon as possible so that we can get the best possible idea of attendance. All registration fees paid to the club are 100% refundable.
